Ghostlight Theatre's Mission

The mission of Ghostlight Theatre is to entertain, educate and enrich the community through dramatic arts by offering a quality and diverse theater experience. Ghostlight Theatre provides opportunities for the community to express their artistic abilities in a number of different ways. Whether people want to be onstage, backstage, or just relax and enjoy a show, there will be something for everyone.

Ghostlight's History

Ghostlight Theatre was started in 2010. With little more than a couple bucks, a few local volunteers and a handful of dedicated and talented actors. What began as a quiet dream, grew into a 501(3) non-profit organization over the first year, with five Board Members. For the first three seasons, Ghostlight actors performed in high school auditoriums and multi-purpose facilities in Surprise, including The Valley Vista Performing Arts Center.

In 2013, we were blessed with an opportunity to open our own theater, in a cozy space in Sun City West, where we still perform today. We raised $15,000 to renovate a small retail location into an intimate performance area, including a small lobby, raised stage, space for 77 audience members, dressing rooms, and small back room for props and costumes. We added two new Board Members at that time, and in 2014, we added a Youth Theatre program. We also invested an additional $10,000 over the summer for theatre renovations (stage expansion, backroom renovations, and an additional exit door).

Ghostlight's Future

Just like the rest of the world, 2020 was a hard year for Ghostlight. The theatre sat empty for a whole year. Chris Ulbrich started up a new board in the middle of the pandemic and with their help has been working to keep Ghostlight from its final curtain bow. It has been a difficult process. It is almost like starting up a new theatre. We had a drive-in radio play fundraiser and have started a monthly newsletter to keep patrons informed on our current projects. We are also working on a master list of all things that the theatre needs updated. In 2021, we raised enough money during the first 50/50 raffle to purchase a new computer for the sound booth and a printer for the box office. Our next goal is to improve our theatre's seating to provide a more comfortable experience while watching our shows. We appreciate the efforts of every volunteer, each patron, every actor, sponsor and community member for their continued support and financial contributions. It is truly due to your support that we can do what we love. Thank you!
